ReStore History
|
Spring
2002 |
Broome County Habitat for Humanity was receiving calls
from members of the community who wanted to donate construction
materials. Habitat, having no facility to hold these donations, turned down as many as
2-3 calls per day.
The Director of Habitat realized an opportunity.

July
2002 |
The
Habitat ReStore was born when Wayne Kerber, owner of Upstate Office
Furniture, gave the organization over 7,000 square feet of space in the basement of his building
at 15 Charles Street in Binghamton.
With a Habitat Board member volunteering to manage the Restore,
donations poured in.

|
Fall 2004
|
Then the building changed owners.
A new part time
manager came just as the Restore was looking for a home.
Generously, Olum’s provided the ReStore with 10,000 square feet in one of their
warehouses.
|
|
November 2004 |
Along with dozens of dedicated volunteers,
the ReStore Manager packed up and moved all the donations from the
basement on Charles Street to its new location.
|
The
ReStore has raised over $34,000 for Broome County Habitat for
Humanity’s construction projects,
keeping
material out of landfills, providing an affordable way
for people to purchase needed building materials.
